In Emmett I Trust

Most of the folks in my inner circle have had a seat at the table for at least 30 years. Some have shared four decades of the journey. For at least one, it’s been a half-century.

I can think of two, perhaps three, that have claimed membership within the last decade.

It feels like Emmett and I have been making each other laugh since the late 1500s. Ain’t so, my friend. It actually hasn’t been all that long. Only 15 years? Only?!?! In this day and age, that’s a lifetime.

Emmett understands me. I understand him.

I like smart people. Emmett is stupidly brilliant.

I like compassionate, grace-filled souls. Emmett glows with an ethereal light.

I like folks who speak with a wicked sense of inappropriate sarcasm and a profound understanding of where “the line” sits in the sand. Emmett does so and leaves most conversations with the other person thinking, “WHAT… just happened?”

Emmett knows stuff I don’t know. We are, as they say, happily incompatible. He can explain trucks, guns and the other side of the political aisle in a way that even I can comprehend.

The man understands what I mean when I say, “it’s dark.”

Emmett is one of the very, very few with whom I trust Sophia and Miles. (See Beau Childress and Chase Vaden for additional details.)

Big E is the one who invariably offers to call the school or negotiate the contract when a confrontation is imminent or a difficult conversation is right around the corner.

He does not hesitate to tell me when he thinks I’m wrong. It’s rare, but, it has happened. (Oh, come on, that was funny… at least mildly humorous.)

The world snickers when we talk about having a friend that, when we suggest a terrible idea, responds with, “What time are we leaving? I’ll bring snacks!” Emmett is THAT person.

Emmett and I rub some people the wrong way. (Shocking, I know.) Matter of fact, some folks don’t like us. Some might even go as far as to say, “I wish they’d go somewhere else.” That’s fine. They’re entitled to their misguided thoughts.

Truth is, we’re each fiercely independent and outspoken. Together, we’re emboldened. Kind of like if Hulk and Thor were fraternity brothers.

We also know what many do not… we’re not the ones about which the world should be concerned. We’re thunder. We CAN BE lightning. We choose not to take that role unless there is no other option. We leave that to Sarah and Vikki. Sarah is Mrs. Emmett. Vikki is Mrs. Jeffrey.

I could go on and on. Fact is, everybody needs an Emmett. We enjoy an ultimate, unwavering trust.

If you failed in your efforts to obtain a winning lottery ticket, the next best thing is to have Emmett in your corner. He makes all things endurable.

Really. Truly. Honestly. Positively. Absolutely. I love Emmett. Always.

Emmett Page. He’s the one. In Emmett I trust.
